Press Release on signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on establishment of the Parliament -SME Cooperation Council
For the first time in the Republic of Armenia a new platform for the public-private dialogue between the National Assembly (the Parliament) and Small and Medium Enterprises was set up by 11 NGOs representing interests of business community. A Memorandum of Understanding establishing the NA-SME Council was signed by business associations and chambers.
The associations and chambers who signed the MOU were selected based on the following criteria:
-Business membership organizations acting on the territory of the Republic of Armenia;
-Organizations that have been active in the last three years, conducted annual general meetings and other events with the participation of the members;
-At least one third of the members of each participant were SMEs;
-At the time of signing the MOU each organization has had at least 20 members.
The mission of the NA-SME Council is to improve the dialogue between SMEs and legislative bodies thus ensuring better quality of legislation on SMEs. The members of the new Council will approve its charter and regulations, after which at least one member from each Parliamentary faction participating in the economic block will be invited to join the Council.
The Council will have no chairperson, will not report to any government agency and its decisions will be made by simple voting. The members of the Council are non-governmental associations and chambers representing interests of the business community.
